What's that in your hand?
What's that in your hand?
Moses' staff (It was an Shepherd's stick).
When the Lord calls upon you to do something, you probably will be like Moses and feel that you are not up to the task. However, God has taken the ordinary people of this world many times and used them to do amazing things for His glory. He also uses our ordinary things for the miraculous. With Moses,
it was his staff.
it was his staff.
Exodus 4:2 (NIV)
2 Then the LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" "A staff," he replied.
- With that Staff, Moses was able to show awesome miracles to the Egyptians and Hebrews. (Parting the Red Sea Exodus 14:21-22).
- With the Widow of Zarephath - it was her pot of flour and jar of oil - that never ran out of flower. (1 Kings 17:7-16)
- With Gideon it was his fleece - it convinced him God was speaking. (Judges 6:36-40)
- With Samson it was his hair - it was the symbolic source of his super-human strength. Though Samson's power actually came from the indwelling presence of the Lord. (Judges 16:17)
- With Solomon, it was his wisdom - with it his reputation was universally regarded. (1 Kings 3:10-15)
- With a boy, it was his lunch box - to feed 5000. (John 6:9)
God takes ordinary people and ordinary things and uses them for His glory.
Even though God was speaking and telling him to go, Moses was reluctant.
Even after God promised to go with him, Moses was reluctant to go.
My friends, Christians have been told by the Lord Jesus to go into all the world and spread the Good News of the Kingdom, to share the Gospel, but they often feel they don't know enough, don't have the eloquence, don't feel they would be able to convince others, etc.
If you are a bit fearful then you are in good company, Moses, Gideon, Jeremiah, etc...
However, if you are willing to do what God has called you to do, His promises are; His equipping, His presence and His power. All you have to do is say to yourself, "Here I am Lord, send me" (Isaiah 6:8-9).
Be courageous God said to Joshua... Courage is not the absence of fear, it is being afraid and still doing what you know God wants you to do, that's real courage.
Will you go?
Prayer: Lord I'm so thankful that you can take the ordinary things in my life and use them in miraculous ways, please help me to overcome my fears, be courageous, and know that when I go, You promise to come with me. Amen
